One day, a person went to horse racing area, Instead of counting the number of human and horses, he instead counted 74 heads and 196 legs. Yet he knew the number of humans and horses there. How did he do it, and how many humans and horses are there?
Please show your work.
They have already taken over our MMOs...it is just a matter of time.
Sorry, I just had to figure out the problem DJPooEater posted.
There are 50 humans and 24 horses. 50 * 2 legs = 100 legs 24 * 4 legs = 96 legs 100 + 96 = 196 legs I can't really tell you an easier way than just guessing and checking the equation, since that's what I just did.
Assuming that only two legs are attached to each head:
74*2=148 196-148=48 48 legs are left over, which will be divided into pairs to figure out how much horses are missing two legs. 48/2=24 There are 24 horses 74-24=50 Humans To double check: 50*2+24*4=196 legs 50+24=74 heads Quite simple really. THis is stuff they teach us in kindergarden back in China.
here's the most simple way I could figure it out
Let's assume that HM = Human and HR = Horse HM + HR = 74 2HM + 4HR = 196 (2HM + 4HR) - (2 HM + 2HR) = 196 - 148 2HR = 48 HR = 24 HM + (24) = 74 HM = 74 - 24 HM = 50 So, the solution is 24 horses and 50 humans.
here's another one since the hard math seems to be popular
If 1/2x +1/2(1/2x + 1/2(1/2x +1/2(1/2x + ... = y, then x = ?
Zero horses and zero humans. They were all decapitated and their legs severed in the process. Do you really want to see my work?
1/2x +1/2(1/2x + 1/2(1/2x +1/2(1/2x + ... = y
If x = 1, then the equation likes this: 1/2 +1/2(1/2 + 1/2(1/2 +1/2(1/2 + ... = y 1/2 +1/4 + 1/8 + 1/16 + 1/32 + ... = y y = 1 = x y = x
Also, when you write 1/2x do you mean 1 / 2x or 1/2*x?
