Yup, I have Diamond. I'm on a trial run-through to get familiar with the game again, then I'll figure out what end team I want and restart the game to get it.

Hmm, I've never been too good at putting together a team. What guidelines do you go by when you are choosing a team?

Get Pokémon that have as few weaknesses as possible in their top evolutions. I noticed the starting water Pokémon turns water/steel at a high enough level. Steel cancels out water's weakness to grass, and water cancels out steel's weakness to fire. Steel also gives a lot of damage reduction in general. A Pokémon with water and steel attacks can hit anything but other water Pokémon for at least normal damage. Try to find good combinations like that. The starting fire Pokémon is also very good, but the starting grass one gets really bad weaknesses.
