OLR TG #35: Week of 8/29/05 - 9/4/05Is the Revolution a big pun? ... PSP 2.0 firmware out... Soul Calibur III news... Nintendogs impressions... A DS Expansion delivered via GBA cart... Sony mudslings at Nintendo... One online XBOX 360 deal just $1,200 dollars... Halo Triple Threat (and movie news too)... and more!
Druaga TriviaI thought I'd repeat a portion of trivia I sent in on this episode about The Tower of Druaga.
I'm not sure if there are other Druaga games. Probably the main reason the PS2 game didn't do well in the US (it's cheaply found now!) is how easily you can lose everything. The game penalizes you for dying by taking all of your possessions that aren't inscribed. You earn these inscriptions as you advance, so you use them on your best weapons and armor. I decided to beat the death penalty system by starting with my last game save by resetting the PS2. Little did I know that the game saves constantly and keeps small "continuity" saves. If the continuity saves don't end with exiting the game, Ishtar calls you on your cheating ways. You have to repent before getting back into the game. What a neat and nasty surprise! Druaga games are all about perfection: getting the most points while collecting the secret chests. The PS2 game is even moreso because it's turn-based. Finding all of the chests and completing with the smallest number of moves gives you the best scores. They require patience and dedication, which is why my Nightmare of Druaga is now in a box.
