Some ps2's just dont like to live, i guess.

I still have mine from 1st US launch (the version with the Disk Read Error problems).... Works fine except it takes a little while to load the purple disks... But what i noticed is that keeping your PS2 or any game system on the Carpet equals a slow painfull death or on the floor period for that matter... Dont know the reasoning at all but best thing to do is to keep it on top of its own stand by itself (not on top of a VCR/Cablebox/DVD player or a TV)... An Milk Carton or an empty solid box will do the trick (i still use the PS2 box that i got it in)... Just keep it off the floor or on top of something electronic...

Mine's from launch too so I'm not sure what you could be doing to your consoles. I get a disc read error sometimes for anything on CD but I just clean the laser and it's like new again.

I bought mine two years ago and even then it was two years old. Mine is pretty old and it won't play ps1 games. yeah. Its a bitch.
