Sony has announced at the Game Developers Confrence that all PS3 games will be region free... I pretty much figured this would happen since the region free idea has been spreading more and more (most PSP games are region free although i have heard of a few that arent)... Im really really hoping that the PS3 will be able to play imported PS2 and PS1 games... Although its very doughtfull, a gamer can dream can't he?

That's totally awesome. No need to get a chip to play imported games is...just awesome.

Sadly, I don't think the region coded PS1 and 2 games will work on any machine, but a man can dream...

SWEET!! I had to pay like $65 for my fliptop and swap disc. If I ever end up getting a ps3 then I won't have to fork up the money! YAY!

Does this mean that more and more import games will pop-up in stores. Will Wal-Mart even have them?

And if you wanted to, people could just buy the version that comes out first, and not buy it when it comes to their neck of the gaming woods.

Chances are that releases will be world wide with this, but they could release region specific versions lacking things like english translation.

With all the extra space they have on those discs this is no susprise. They can hold all the vocal tracks, subtitles, and TV standards for all countries on the one disk easily.

Yeah that's exactly the reason sony gave for this. They want to have one SKU worldwide to make it easy for developers.
