Quick Comment on Shadow of the Colossus

Postby robbway » Thu Oct 20, 2005 5:17 am

First off, Shadow of the Colossus (SotC) is a refreshingly original game! Artsy-fartsy to the end, the game retains the lonely-but-beautiful feel of Ico.

There's not much to the game, really. Figure out how to get to the Colossus, then figure out to kill it, and finally actually kill it (that's the hard part). This is the stuff of nightmares, and nicely done.

The plot will be revealed as you play, but your motivations for killing the Colossi are questionable, and the question of "Why the hell are the Colossi there?" are bound to be tragic (no spoiler, I have no idea).

FRAME RATE--UGH! Here's the games worst feature, the PS2 can't handle the rendering requirements. In the heat of battle, the frame rate can drop to about 4 fps when the camera does a quick 180. I would love to see this game on a more powerful machine.

Antialiasing. Not done well on the scenery. It creates a distracting contrast problem, but that's about it.

I think robb meant to do a new topic as opposed to a reply, I know I've done the same thing on phBB I don't know how many times. So I went ahead and split the topic for you guys :)

Sorry! Yes, that's exactly what I did. I'm still liking the game after defeating 10 Colossi.

Crash! Crash! Crash!

Postby robbway » Tue Oct 25, 2005 12:00 pm

I'm having trouble defeating the 11th Colossus. That's not because it's difficult, its the system crashes that keep happening. Anyone else encounter this? My theory is the pause function. I hit the pause (Start button) each time just prior to the crash.
