Star Wars Kid Cuts a Deal With His TormentorsCaught this on Slashdot.com today and i thought it was funny...
An anonymous reader writes "Ghyslain Raza, who gained instant online fame as the 'Star Wars Kid' settled this week with the families of the three classmates who posted his two minute Lucasfilm screen test on the Internet. No details were released but the suit sought damages of $351,000. A victory for the victims of cyber-bullying, or missed chance by thin-skinned Ghyslain to cash-in as the next William 'She Bangs' Hung?" Didnt his video appear like 5-6 years ago... He waited till now to do it? And for $351,000... Maybe that money is to restart his career...
It was so funny. He was just funny.
He didn't wait until just now, this has been going on for years, it was just finally settled.
Apparently he was so tormented after the video was released on the internet he had to go into a psych ward and pretty much had his life ruined because he couldn't take being the butt of jokes well. That's why they were suing - they had to pull him out of school and get special treatment.
then i guess he never understood his popularity because there was a huge signing petition to get him into Attack of the Clones and then another one for Epp 3 as an extra... I remember seeing 100,000+ signatures on both of them that they sent to LucasFilms... Obviously he wasent put into the films but it would have been cool to see him in there... Then again Lucas DOES like to come out with SPecial Special Super New and Improved edditions of Star Wars...
I thought I'd chime in here with my recollection of the events:
1) The video itself was leaked. 2) Everyone and their mom made the spinoff video hacks, including the most famous dual-saber glow with sound effects. 3) The kids who leaked the original video (and I think they also made the above mentioned popular video hack) had a donation drive and got him an iPod and some extra cash (IIRC, of course). 4) 'Emotionally Scarred' fat kid sues the people who put together the donation drive together and as we now know; Wins.
3 and 4 are incorrect. The kids who leaked it continually bashed him, and they have logs (which were used in court) of them having no remorse for doing so. The donation drive and the petition to get him in the movie were done by other people on the Internet not related to the initial situation at all.
