Favorite Firefox Extensions/Themes

Favorite Firefox Extensions/ThemesSo I was having some fun with the illustrious browser known as Firefox and I was browsing through the Mozilla site, checking out the community-produced themes/extensions. I was completely overwhelmed by the wave of numerous extensions and themes as I scrolled through, page after page. Mozilla definitely boasts quality and quantity in its community and promising browser. Curiosity then struck me, followed by the thread idea.
I'm still currently surfing through the Mozilla site for Firefox extensions, and was looking for a community to share them with. What better place to share the idea with the tech-savvy(i hope! ) OLR forums. I'll start the list with my current favorites: Adblock Plus: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/1865/ Fasterfox: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/1269/ Cooliris Previews: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/2207/[/url][/i]
Hmm.. i cant find it =/ Ill keep searching, but azureFox is similar ;D
Black Japan Max, I presume? Anyway, I forgot to mention that I am using the macfoxIIgraphite theme. I seem to have an obssession with all things Mac.
You betcha
I found this neat little trick to firefox, but I am not sure as to what I am changing in about:config. Is this too good to be true and harm my browser or will it actually work?
Thing is, "real text instructions" say to do the same thing, so there's no real difference. I tried the little trick, and Firefox seems to load the pages considerably faster. There are some cons to this though: "* Enabling pipelining in Firefox can speed up complex page retrievals, as you note, but it can also break Flash. This is a Macromedia thing not a Firefox thing but that's why the app defaults to pipelining disabled. * There are reasons why Firefox isn't configured like that out of the box. Asa at Mozilla.org explains why: Yes, enabling HTTP pipelining can dramatically improve networking performance. The downside, and the reason it's not enabled by default, is that it can prevent Web pages from displaying correctly. If you've enabled this, and you find pages that aren't displaying correctly, please don't blame Firefox or the Web developer. It's probably the fact that you enabled an "unsupported" feature which is incompatible with some Web servers and proxy servers. The second change, setting the initial paint delay at zero, may get you some content on the screen faster, but it's worth noting that it will dramatically slow down the time it takes the entire page to display. Yes, there are tuning change you can make (even at compile time, see Moox' optimized builds) that will dramatically alter the performance characteristics of Firefox. Feel free to experiment, but remember that most of the defaults are defaults for a reason. If your browser starts misbehaving or web sites look broken, it might be worth going back to default settings. " http://blog.rosshollman.com/2004/12/make-firefox-faster.html
All I really meant was that the video is awful quality and wasn't worth straining your eyes to figure something out.
And get text instructions so you understand step by step what you need to do. Besides, text can be referenced, referencing a minute / second / frame of a video is annoying. I used pipelining a while ago, and it does really help if you have a big pipe. Once I started getting into server administration though (like, for serious) I started leaning against it. I had to reset my firefox profile some time back, and I haven't reenabled pipelining since. The alternative is to use something quick and easy like the Fasterfox extension, which gives you a GUI to the most of that.
Yeah, I see where you're coming from. I have no problems or complaints, though. Fasterfox does everything mentioned in the video except altering the "maxrequests" option, which is set at 4. It's running pretty smoothly for now without any problems.
