What's in your main gaming computer / laptop?Post what you're currently gaming with.

LOL I built mine, and am into major case modification
Generic Black Case Gigabyte Mobo w/ Onboard RAID, SATA, IDE, PCIEX, 2 PCI slots, 2 front panel USB Headers, 10/100/1000 NIC, 6 USB2.0 connectors + 2 front. Intel Retail 3.0GHz 800MHz FSB, 512MB L2Cache, 64-bit memory addressing ATI Radon X1300 2x DVI out, 1x S-VIDEO out, 256MB onboard video memory, PCI-Extreme interface. PCI Soundblaster Awe-64 Gold with 2x input/output/Realtec surround sound onboard SB Card (not used) Speakers hooked up: 2x 600WATT outdoor PA quality speakers, JBL concert series speaker system w/ 4 channel mixing board, JBL Amplifier, Bose portable computer speakers. 40GB Seagate (boot) | 250GB Western Digital (music) | 250GB Western Digital (games) | 250GB Western Digital (video) NEC 52x/16x/16x/8x/8x CD-RW/DVD-R/DVD+R/DVD-RW/DVD-DL drive. 550Watt PSU Keystart+USB Flash Drive Encryption start (You need both Key and USB flash drive to start the computer), sound reacting strobe light, blacklight neon lights embedded into case, blacklight reactive paint inside case. Booting: Slackware Linux kernel 2.4.22 MacOS X Intel 64-bit version Windows 2000 Server Windows Vista 64-bit edition Windows XP Coporate 64-bit edition Yes I have all that hardware running on a 550W PSU.. Lets say I am daring. Not a bad system yourself, just its not modded, or it doesnt seem like it. basically the USB keystart is an encryption key (the bios is encrypted) without the key, the computer will *NOT* boot as it cant read the BIOS to POST. Also the other difference is when my system isnt gaming, it is bolted down to my desk. Takes me about 30-45 minutes to tear down the thing (including unbolting it from my desk), I have the bolts so tight on there, no human on earth can unscrew them (without a powered driver). My friend was going to give me an SLI board, but that fell through as his brother wanted it.

Ooo, good idea, i'll copy from my xfire too: ( http://www.xfire.com/profile/greenskie/ )

There any of you out there who dont have a pre-manufacturer'd compute? i.e. Dell? Compaq? HP? etc.
and have more of a homemade? lol, I am noticing a trend of mainly pre-manufactured computers that are popping up in this thread. P.S. The main machine is what the STFU and the AB podcasts are produced on. (the 4GHz P4)
Go to the /proc and do cat <filename> on files:
/proc/ide/(hda,b,c,d or whatever you have)/model also do a cat on /proc/cpuinfo that will give you the CPU information the processor speed, the CPU model, cache size, and bogomips. also a 'cat meminfo' in /proc will give you memory info i.e. the KB since linux measures in KB, and not in MB. Heres what I get for my server (which is a small PoS computer. processor : 0 vendor_id : AuthenticAMD cpu family : 5 model : 8 model name : AMD-K6(tm) 3D processor stepping : 12 cpu MHz : 500.900 cache size : 64 KB fdiv_bug : no hlt_bug : no f00f_bug : no coma_bug : no fpu : yes fpu_exception : yes cpuid level : 1 wp : yes flags : fpu vme de pse tsc msr mce cx8 pge mmx syscall 3dnow k6_mtrr bogomips : 999.42 That would translate into an AMD K6-2 at 500MHz. or for meminfo root@nixbox:/proc# cat meminfo total: used: free: shared: buffers: cached: Mem: 187604992 183975936 3629056 0 45441024 8175616 Swap: 0 0 0 MemTotal: 183208 kB MemFree: 3544 kB MemShared: 0 kB Buffers: 44376 kB Cached: 7984 kB SwapCached: 0 kB Active: 39440 kB Inactive: 12988 kB HighTotal: 0 kB HighFree: 0 kB LowTotal: 183208 kB LowFree: 3544 kB SwapTotal: 0 kB SwapFree: 0 kB would translate to 183MB of RAM. do a df for your Hard Drive info... i.e. root@nixbox:/proc# df Filesystem 1K-blocks Used Available Use% Mounted on /dev/hda1 9767184 6775472 2991712 70% / /dev/hdc1 9767184 585508 9181676 6% /public root@nixbox:/proc# and mesure the KB used, divide by 10240... i.e. if you have 20480kb divide by 10240 = 2.. You would have 2.0GB of drive space, since 10240k = 1GB. Since Linux measures in KB.. Hope you got that btw Once you think about it, its not that hard. NOTE: YOU *MUST* have root privilages to do these commands. On Mandrake systems or any systems for that matter i would go to a konsole if you use KDE, and I would do an su, and put in your root password.
Btw, tweak.. I am too poor to build my own computer also.. My computer was built like 3 years ago, and I am too poor to aford a new case.. The parts (literally all of 'em) were given to me.
The DVD Burner = My Ex girlfriend. Processor, Videocard, Motherboard, RAM = My friend Ben (He even gave me an intel inside sticker to tack to the front of my computer) The HDDs were provided to me by my friend Justin who had old HDDs lying around, so he just gave 'em to me. The boot drive actually had/has bad sectors on it.
You uhh, broke your link there buddy. (Hint: quote this post, copy my own code out, edit your own). Supa Mario Freek... took me a minute to be able to read that. doing df -h is immensely easier. /proc should be readable by any, ditto for running df. Neither of those should require root privileges. If they do, you're using a pretty stupid distribution. Last edited by VxJasonxV on Thu Mar 29, 2007 7:42 pm, edited 1 time in total.
