Since I'm sure someone will ask me what my favorite 5-key beatmania song is, I thought I'd take this opportunity to answer that with this week's 'I love that song!' selection, a remix of the Metal Gear Solid theme specially redone for beatmania: BEST HITS on PSX. It certainly captures the feel of playing as Solid Snake as he sneaks into Shadow Moses in an attempt to stop the latest incarnation of the infamous Metal Gear walking death tank!
Interesting bit of trivia this song did make an appearance in beatmania when it debuted on the PS2, and even featured an all-new exclusive video!
Hello and welcome to a new section here at OLR called Video Stumble!
This section will be dedicated to interesting, amazing, or just plain funny video game related videos!
On this first article we will watch a 2 part video about the many console ports Street Fighter II had on consoles, including Turbo, Champion Edition, and Super. Some are good, like the SNES and Genesis ports, some look really bad. But it is also interesting to see the changes made from the original arcade intro and the different variations of the intro music, some are pretty cool to hear. And you'll be surprised at some of the ports made, especially the last one considering the year of its release.
Click on the "Read more" link to watch the 2nd video and a little bonus one.
Welcome to the first installment to kick off BEMANI month here on Retro Rearview! This first article is going to talk about the game that more or less started the music game craze, at least for Konami (there were a few games that came out before beatmania did, like Parappa the Rapper and possibly even the original Bust-A-Move (Suffice it to say I'm not referring to the US re-title of Puzzle Bobble.)
So hit the jump for the rest of this look back at one of the world's first music games!
The only sticks you'll want though are glow sticks.
Today's track is Playball by Nobuyoshi Sano "Sanodg" from Beatmania IIDX 14 GOLD CS
Please note due to copyright issues I can not make this song available for you to download directly.
It is usually DarkTetsuya the one who picks BEMANI related stuff for this segment, but I really wanted to pick this song for some time now. I think I don't need to talk about this game, if you're a listener of OLR, you already know what Beatmania is and why it's pretty damn awesome, and hard. Of course, Konami has it's own artist that make the music for the series, but they sometimes have people from other companies to make songs for the series, like Sanodg, who is pretty much famous for his songs on the Ridge Racer series, as also his contribution to the Korg-DS games.
Sanodg is pretty much one of my favorite music artist/composers in video game history, he has some pretty awesome songs and this is one of them. It starts out very simple, and the then the beats start to flow throughout the song, it is trance-ish in a way too, though it has some pretty off-beats moments that make it pretty cool to hear and probably dance to, and it is fun to play on BMIIDX too. This song is a console exclusive too, so you'll have to pick up of copy GOLD to play it.
BTW, Sanodg has a Twitter if you want to give him a follow: @Sanodg
If you have suggestions or recommendations for future "I love that song" segments or just wanna comment about the song please click the "Add new comment" link or contact us via Twitter: http://twitter.com/sanodg, @Darktetsuya or me, @act_deft!
