Those Weird Ads

Postby robbway » Tue Jul 18, 2006 4:52 am

I was listening to Part A, and I'd like to add that ALL game companies have had their turn in the weird-ass advertisement. My Nintendo example is Yoshi's Story, where this really large person is shoving his face full with food and then explodes, showering his guts and food everywhere. That commercial was so gross, I almost puked the first time I saw it.

And what about the ad for the Game Boy Micro? It had a lab rat in a maze and humping the micro when he found it at the end of the maze

About games being too easy......that's just a whole lot of crap. I mean most games have harder settings or something to do to make the game harder. Sure games back in the 2d days were harder but when you think about it the main reason is that most had no saving in the middle unless it was an RPG or a long game. I remember sitting for hours straight playing games like sonic or any comic games. Sure there were passwords for some but they didn't always put you in the exact situation you were already in. Metroid for example put your health down to 30 every time.

In this day and age everyone will complain about everything so it won't matter if it's easy or hard, it will get the same crap as every game. One example is beatmainia, when it finally came to the US this year it was panned by critics for being too hard. Sometimes you can't get the fun out of a game until you actually sit down for a while and learn it.

P.S.- Try playing Ninja Gaiden (NES) and Ninja Gaiden (xbox). Both are quality games and known for toughness. Even though I still can't beat the NES one I consider the xbox one harder, there is just so much to do and to learn that it took hours for me to get it right and when I did things got tougher and I needed more upgades and to learn more moves. The game practically makes you master it just to beat it.

Part B Comment

Postby robbway » Thu Jul 20, 2006 1:01 pm

I can't remember if this was on 20/20 or on a gaming website, but there are two reasons Japanese Arcades do well. One, it is cheaper to meet your friends than to visit. Apparently it's customary that you must bring a gift when you visit their home. The other is they're in a common place after work/school before they hit the mass transit homeward.
