Game Testing

Postby robbway » Mon Jul 10, 2006 11:16 am

That game testing thing is a bad, bad idea. Nobody wants to drop $70 on software that only plays thru the first level because of a bug. They'll want their money back. There was a time in the early 80's where Atari Games were made too fast and didn't have any quality control on the gameplay. The failures of Pac Man and ET pretty much dragged the entire American industry into hell. Games weren't getting better, they were getting worse. At least, by comparison to the arcade games. It made people go outside and exercise.

Without software testing, it will happen again, gauranteed. The proper way to upgrade games is to provide a near-bug-free final version, then provide all of the missing content as patches or pay-per-modules.

Demographics

Postby robbway » Tue Jul 11, 2006 4:49 am

My first reaction to the "White" Sony ad was that it was in poor taste. Then I realized that this was a country that wasn't racist, but instead celebrates the differences between people. The fact that they had a black dominatrix and a white dominatrix in a pair of ads indicates the ad was supposed to be sexually provocative. Again, in a country that has a healthier view of sexuality than the United States.

Unfortunately, this is just another example of how Americans are still immature when it comes to western culture. So Loki had it correct from the start. The ad is not offensive. The ad is not made for us. The ad will not appear here as an ad from Sony.

If I would of seen the ad before the racialphobic politicians I would of thought it was kinda lame and I am a sony fan.

other than that the day would go on with no new info from sony or psp.

also to comment on something else in the news the M$ IPOD hmm who else finds this as a contradiction to the campain of pointing the finger at who is copying who.

But isnt that the intention to create a ipod killer and then claim apple copied there idea, sounds familliar to me.

Bad Manners?

If you notice, M$ doesn't really point the "copycat" finger, but rather point out blatant lies when Sony points the "copycat" finger. They know they copy here and there. They all do a bit of borrowed technology. Saying who's copying whom, even when right, just wastes PR time and money. It does nothing to help the engineers and programmers because it makes the entire company look snide.

I played a crapload of pinball. Pictures will be up soon AND possibly video if I can get my DVRs ripped.

Here's something for the interim:

Really not the impression I have gotten from the XBOYs but hey never understood why M$ would have the nerve to point their finger after the DVD inclusion in the XBOX could not of been M$ noticing how Sony had a good idea to copy from. Opps did I say copy I was so trying to avoid that word.

Just because a company is creating a "so-and-so killer" doesn't mean they are going to claim that they came up with the idea. If anything, one could claim that Apple stole the idea of MP3 player from Creative and iRiver, and the idea of a Hard Drive-based player from Compaq.

Just because a company came up with a type of technology doesn't mean other companies can't make something similar. If that wasn't true, the iPod wouldn't exist.

Besides, just as robbway mentioned, Microsoft didn't say that Sony copied anyone, they just pointed out the Sony statements that lacked correctness.

Also, the Microsoft's credit, their device if going to be different from the iPod, it will have Wi-Fi, which iPod doesn't have; a built-in music distribution program, which the iPod doesn't have; and possibly game functionality, unlike the iPod's craptastic and almost unplayble games.

Of cource, if it indeed does have game functionality, the second they announce it Sony is going to claim they copied the PSP.

P.S. the M$ thing really bugs me, why do people use it so much? is it really that hard to type Microsoft of even MS?

Acctually waht bugs me more is that before the XBOX came out neither Nintendo, Sony or Sega pointed their finger at each other or called each other liars. Oh thats right those are all japanese companies hmm must be an american @hole thing.

Sony Apologizes

Postby robbway » Wed Jul 12, 2006 12:52 pm

Sony pulled their "white" adverts and issued an apology! That was quick. This is actually the first statement from Sony I've heard lately that DIDN'T make them look bad. What if they had used chess pieces instead?

I'm afraid I don't understand. Are you saying that the Xbox started this whole "copycat" thing? Because that is absolutely not true, what started it was the fact the Sony built motion sensing technology into the PS3, so people claimed they copied the Wii. Not Nintendo, mind you, just average people.

Actually wasnt refering to the fact that they were making another MP3 player its the fact that it looks so much like the IPod thats so like M$.
