Got home just in time for the Skype calls and aftershow. Listened to first half on my drive to school/werk'.

~ Was the Sonic Xtreme "leak" April Fools gag mentioned in the second half? If so, ignore this. If not, then it's probably for the best. It was silly, and it made people who forgot to check the date mad. Like it was supposed to do I guess. Know what? Forget I mentioned it.

~ I just hope Nintendo will get over itself long enough to allow Choaniki and Ai Choaniki to be available PCE/TG16 CD titles for Revolution (if Nintendo has any say in it). Yes, I'm a digital sado-masochist like that.

~ Check the MySpace, I gave y'all some quick photoshop love.

As for the aftershow:
~ Suikoden V needs all the loving it can get, seeing as to how 1. the fourth game in the series really scarred the series 2. this one lives up to the glory of the first three games AND 3. it's going up against KH2. If you like RPGs, you owe it to yourself to give it a chance. No joke.[/url]

The good thing about Suikoden is that you don't really need to know much about the other games to make heads or tails of anything in other games. The only real advantage is that you get some backstory on the whole universe.

For example, certain recruitable characters from S1 (I won't say who) gon on to serv the opposing side in S2. There's also another character in S1 and S2 that acts as a major villian in the third game. You'll see rivals from the past under your control in other games, and others that become background characters. It doesn't really add anything other than a few "oh WOW, so that's what was up with him/her" and a lot of in-depht history in it's vast universe, but most of it is so subtle that it doesn't really excludes newcomers to the series the way something like Xenosaga does.

But because S5 is a prequel that takes place before S1, you REALLY don't miss too much at all. Worth a look, especially with the $39 price tag. My only gripe (and I do mean ONLY gripe) is that it isn't really that challenging. I've yet to see the Game Over screen.

A wee bit too astronomically ambitious when we want to put up a rental store for the media, eh Mr. Ken Kutaragi? XD

Nostalgia

I started to play Suikoden two, but stopped for some reason. The funniest thing about the sequel is the main weak enemy you fight at first is Holly Boy. He's a boy made of holly. Go figure! I have all Suikodens except for V. Someday I'll play them!

Good calls on the Alex Kidd in Shinobi World and Wonder Boy in Monster Land. Maybe Alex Kidd in Wonder Boy World would make an odd but interesting sequel. Rock smashes Scissors.

~ No, really, my vote goes to Ai Choaniki. But yeah, wonderful list. If I had to nitpick, it'd be over the surprise how no one mentioned any of the original Phantasy Star games. Especially for the first one. You want a strong example of female leads in gaming? Look no further. Plus the game was pretty GODLY for it's time.

But my vote still goes to Ai Choaniki. Because goddamn...

~ Since they were mentioned in a few past shows as well, Buy-Rite (thankfully) went out of business over a year ago. The BBB finally got enough leverage to slap 'em down, especially after a major news outlet did an expose on 'em. Unless they came back last time I checked, but that'd probably be a less deserving gaming necromancin' than Acclaim's "comeback".

~ Funny quasi-related story regarding the whole dealio regarding UMDs. I was in the grocery store the other day, and looked over at the VHS/DVDs section (I live out in the boonies, so they still cater to VHS owners) where I noticed that they had new DVDs for $5.00. And mind you, these were titles that normally still retail for at least $10.00 brand new. Upon closer inspection, I noticed these were "movie only" DVDs. No extras, no language options, just the flick in English. Even more interesting, they were mini-sized. Japanese music importers will know what I mean when I say they look like Maxi-disc singles.

So we come to UMDs. Other than portability (and even then, only on a PSP), they're pratically the same; no extras, just the movie. And they're selling these for over $20? Someone wanna explain the logic in this for me?

~ One of these days, I'm gonna run out of fanboyish things to say and will just copy and paste one of Grandpa Simpson's ramblings.

To be realistic, I think we would neeeever see Choaniki in the States. People are too damned uptight. Even though I want it and have been looking off and on for it...

I didn't mention the Phantasy Star series because of the Sega Ages re-releases. Honestly, they should just translate them and bring them for PS2 over here...

I should hook up the Sega CD and finish my game of Popful Mail.

RANDOM.

I know. T_T But let me dream, kay?

As good as the Sega Ages version of PS is, and yes it's a crime that they haven't localized it, but I'd actually like to see the original SMS version brought to form in some manner for the sole purpose of history. Not actually a huge deal as I just remembered GameTap does have rights to it. It may already be on there, I dunno, I don't have GameTap. And even then I'm not sure if it has/will have the groovy MarkIII sound.

Before I end up talking about Zillion though, I'm gonna stop making words. :X
