If everyone got fired for wasting company time, there would be no work force! But this guy was pretty stupid to get caught. Hell, I have my portable dvd player and watch anime at work.

That's why I said they were making an example of him. Happens all the time, sadly.

Move With One, Shoot With The Other

Postby robbway » Mon Feb 13, 2006 2:17 pm

Crystal Quest is indeed adding yet another game like Robotron and all those others you mentioned. They need to steer clear of these clone shooters for awhile. I'll admit to owning all Live titles like this, except for Smash TV (which is also good). They're all very good.

CQ's main difference is the collection of the gems, making it similar to the old game, Solar Fox. The Scoring system is so bizarre, too. Hardest Level 10 is the only one you'll make leaderboard on. I think they should have 10 leaderboards based on skill.

CQ has the EASIEST achievement badges ever, if you are a Gamer Points whore, this is a good one. It's the only game I've managed to score all, and only in 3 days.

I really need to pick up Crystal Quest and Marble Blast. I'll be doing a story on the next podcast on how these XBOX live arcade games may start to become pirated.

Arrrrrrr....

Postby robbway » Mon Feb 13, 2006 6:38 pm

Well, I'll be interested to hear the story. The obvious thing is that you may download the games repeatedly and to a memory stick. The entire game is downloaded when you download the demo. It would seem the trick is to flip the bits that make the program believe it's on the original system, where all profiles can use the full version. Not that I'm condoning this, arrrrr....

I really enjoyed this episode guys. But one question. Would that Codebreaker code work on a gameshark?

No.
Codebreakers and GameSharks work differently in terms of memory addressing and logic and such things.

Damn. Oh well. I wouldn't even really play it anyway. I don't have working pads anymore.

CQ Downloads

Postby robbway » Tue Feb 14, 2006 8:15 am

Speaking of Crystal Quest, there are now add-ons. I'll be the guinea pig for everyone! Each upgrade is 150 points, approximately $1.80:

1) CQ Xtreme
2) Wild Animal Sounds
3) Synth Sounds
4) Nano Theme Skin (Nano as in electron-microscope theme)
5) Sketch Theme

CQ Xtreme is a super-hard version of CQ. Worth the purchase because it ups the challenge. On leaderboards, your level is "X: 1" thru "X: 10."

2 and 3 are just sound effects changes. Novel, but not really worth it.

The Nano Theme Skin is an easier-to-see version of the original. Mines and Crystals are more distinct. Still, not really worth it unless you can't stand the original graphics.

Sketch theme is an inverted contrast (black on white) skin. Cosmetic, but easier to see. Not really worth it.

IN THE FUTURE, I won't be buying anymore skins or sounds. Game upgrades are really welcome, though. One last negative: you have to load the extras, quit CQ, and start the game again everytime you change downloadable content options.
