That's odd, I don't remember seeing the tag on mine when I loaded it on my ipod this morning. I'll look again when I get home.

Working on the show now. Just curious, what about the PS2 version of FFXI? Is there a difference between that and the PC version at all? Or does anyone even use the PS2 version?

I keep thinking it would be nice to try out the game some day but the $15/mo. fee really turns me off. I've never done MMORPG's mostly because I don't like PC gaming much myself, but the monthly fees connected with them are a real turn off. I think my $50/year Live fee is questionable if it's worth it, and I got my current year for free. I'm not even sure I'll renew and at least it's useful for more then a single game and cheaper then an average MMORPG.

The PS2 version apparently runs at 640x480 and is practically running at what appears to be less than 30 FPS. Yes, I own it without playing it and I still pay for it because I want to keep in touch with a friend. Yes, just one friend.

If you ever wanna sell it, let me know. Maybe one of these days I'll see if I can hunt down a cheap used set or something and give it a shot for a month or 2.

With so many free ways to keep in touch now(Skype for one), why pay $15/mo for the benefit?

It's not $15. It's $12.95 for an account and one character. $1 per extra character.

FYI we voluenteered the explicit tag on last night's episode... it's sort of a tongue-in-cheek joke.

Lets face it, you folks were dropping the f-bomb quite a bit this time around anyway.

Show Commenting

Postby robbway » Mon Jan 23, 2006 8:06 pm

Despite the F bombs and Dark Sakura's rant (which I enjoyed), the show had a great pacing to it. I need to comment on Sudoku...

When Sudoku came out, I remember playing those puzzles way back in the 80's, I think. Will Shortz does a brief bio on Sudoku origins in his books. It's either American or English in origin and was not popular in the US compared to today.

Today, I think you guys got it right. I think the craze in Japan made Americans take notice. Plus it uses numbers, but only logic--no math!

It's funny when a Sudoku game has "over 1000" puzzles. If you've seen one puzzle, you've seen them all. It's not like a picture of a monkey is going to appear in puzzle 745 or anything. I hope the puzzle-generator is robust, because a game like "Ancient Sudoku" just makes the ugliest puzzles.

Of all the books I've seen, Extreme Sudoku has special puzzles in it, like the extra hard 4x4x4x4 puzzles where you use hexidecimal digits!

Look out! Here comes another Japanicized game, Kokuro. It was call Cross-sums originally, and I'm guessing its of English origin. The idea of Kokuro is to place the digits 0-9 in the crossword-style grid such that no digit recurs in an across or down answer, and the numbers added together equal the sum-clue to the left (for across) or above (for down) the entry.

Do I think Kokuro will catch on like Sudoku? This is just a guess, but I think the math will prevent that from ever happening.

And on fat-loser (I mean that in a good way!) Jared, and DS' FU segment, changes in diet and exercise are needed. My weight goes up and down, and I'm pretty heavy right now. I don't care what anyone says, it takes me much longer to gain weight than to lose it. I lost a lot a couple years back on DDR, but I resisted the temptation to eat a lot of fatty foods during that time. The results were amazing. But I was playing something like 8 hours a week or more, too.

I figured since it was the 'hot topic' in underground things gone mainstream (or whatever you wanna call it) I thought that mentioning the game's GBA appearance would be appropriate. (Although I think it was mentioned, the game would probably be better suited to the DS with its touchscreen...)

You're right! All pen-n-paper adaptations are probably best on DS. I'd love to see a Mario's Picross 2 with color! Touch to mark/space/unmark. Pick color from palette.

For Sudoku, I'd touch the number palette, and touch once to place a "mark" in a box. Touch the mark to fill the box. Don't worry, there will be too many Sudoku games in the near future.
