Ps3 Hard disk replacement

Postby ingn0 » Thu Apr 30, 2009 2:21 pm

I want to replace my hard drive for a bigger one. I found these people and wasn't sure about them. Have anyone tried them?

First off NEVER send your PS3 out for someone to upgrade... There are millions of scammers on the internet...

2nd its very easy (and A LOT cheaper) to upgrade yourself... Sony has made it really easy for people to upgrade it themselves (one of the good things that they have done)...

Now I don't own a PS3 but a lot of my friends have done this process on theirs

First off you want to buy a Laptop Hard Drive... NewEgg is the best place to find one and the prices are very inexpensive:
http://www.newegg.com/Store/SubCategory ... ard-Drives

Most people choose Seagate or WD, but from what i hear it doesn't really matter... Just make sure its a 2.5-inch SATA notebook hard drive with a good rating... Also try to get a 5400rpm drive... A friend of mine had serious overheating problems with a 7200rpm drive... The loads were only very very slightly better but it wasn't worth the system getting really hot...

After you get the drive just find a video or a thread showing how to install it...

like this one:

And just like that you have a brand new drive for a lot less than what that site was charging...

Now im not claiming to be an expert so read up on it but DON'T send it away for someone to do... Its a lot cheaper, quicker and its really really easy to do it yourself...

Thanks, But how do I put my saves and DLC on the new hard drive? I don't want to loose my CoD map packs or the songs for Rockband.

You can hook up a extrenal USB drive and transfer all your stuff there and then put it back in the new HDD

No, MGS4 isn't coming to the 360. Never was, never will.
If I'm mistaken, Ranma gets a free copy of it. =P

What Act-deft says... Sony allows you to copy all your save files and DLC onto a external drive and paste it later after you put the drive in...

The video i posted shows you how to do that as well...

So just take a flash drive and copy paste it? I've found some sites that tell me to backup my hard drive, replace it, then restore the backup, will that work too? For some reason I don't want to loose Nobi Nobi Boy :?

Pretty much yes... This is all you need to do...

I guess keep the old HD around with everything on it just in case but that should do it...
