Metal Gear Solid 4, not to be PS3 exclusive?

Postby DJTyrant » Mon May 28, 2007 10:55 am

The rumors are firing up again as PS3 Fanboy and Destructoid are reporting that they have sources saying a 360 version is in the works, and there are talks of a Wii version of Metal Gear Solid game (not necissarily MGS4).

Not a huge surprise for me, but do you think this is a really significant hit for Sony? Or will is take FFXIII going to other platforms to really hurt Sony?

It has been declared FAKE.

The text used is a blalant copy of an IGN article.

IGN.com - March 5, 2003
At the end of 2001, one of the biggest titles to be released for any of the current generation consoles was Metal Gear Solid 2. As the follow up to the blockbuster smash hit PSX title Metal Gear Solid, it went on to sell extremely well and be played by many PS2 fans. However, sole owners of GameCube and Xbox would have to do without it. Fortunately, Konami wasn't completely blind to the fact that more gamers deserved to play the epic title, and it released Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance for the Xbox a year later in November 2002. This came with new content additions including VR missions and other bonus gameplay like Snake Tales, which lets you go on more objective-based missions -- some quite lengthy. So, there's no question that Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance comes packed with more content than the original MGS2 on PS2.

At the end of 2007, one of the biggest titles to be released for any of the current generation consoles is Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. As the follow up to the blockbuster smash hit PS2 title Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, it will problably sell extremely well and be played by many PS3 fans. However, sole owners of Wii and Xbox 360 would have to do without it. Fortunately, Konami isn?t completely blind to the fact that more gamers deserve to play this epic title, and it is now confirmed that Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots for the Xbox 360 will launch a year later in November 2008. Well apparently Konami has given DToid a C&D which makes their story much more creditable than it was before.

Seriously though, this is easily one of the more persistant rumours ive seen in recent times. Every time konami talks about the game, they mention its still a PS3 exclusive, without even being asked. seems a bit fishy.

some new news to point towards no longer exclusive...

Quote from reuters news site:
"Kitaue said Konami may need to expand the target hardware for its blockbuster fighting game Metal Gear Solid, which has so far been developed for Sony's PlayStation machines, to other consoles in the future to recoup development costs.

"Since Metal Gear Solid was born for the PlayStation, we would like to keep it a PlayStation game. But we might have to take some steps," Kitaue said."

Interesting "expand the target hardware" implies greatly
He also says "like to" not we must.

ALSOI

"Konami plans to launch Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots for the PS3 in the current business year to March 2008. "
hmm thats at least a before this date release, note "to march 08."

If its going to come out 360 then it won't be for some time from what it sounds like... Kojima has already said that the game is not being developed for 360 nor will it any time soon... I'm sure Kojima and Konami will look at the sales charts once MGS4 comes out (which is in 07 according to the most recent trailer) they will decide to expand or not... Personally i think MGS4 will get people to buy a PS3, because i know sure as hell it will for me... I seriously don't think MGS4 will jump ship... While Konami has the final say, Kojima has in the past has held some animosity towards MS for MGS2: Substance... Apparently MS did something Kojima didn't like and soon after that it was released on Xbox, Kojima said he would never work with MS again... Like i said Konami has the final say in this but either way if MGS4 is going to the 360 its not going to be for a while...
