Oh noes! Bad news about the Wii?

Linky

Scroll to the bottom, just before Progress Report.

No third-party Wii title will have Wi-Fi surpport until 2007.

I really hope Nintnedo don't lose their third-party surpport again over this.

Yeah i saw this earlier... I dont think that its a huge hit to Nintendo to tell you the truth... Since this only effects launch title 3rd party games it shouldnt be a huge problem... Although there are alot of games on launch day that normally use or require online support... People planning on getting games like Madden, Tony Hawk DHJ and alot of the FPS's for Online Multiplayer will suffer... But since the Wii's message statement has been to have a "better gaming experiance" online isnt really needed... Nintendo's feeling is that "Sure you gotta deal with split screen multiplayer but at least you will have fun doing it", and i think thats whats more important...

Companies are already delaying some of their games because of this news (FF: Crystal Chronicles and DBZ TKI 2 wont be at launch)... Im sure more will follow with this news but companies like EA dont seem to care since they still want to release Call Of Duty 3 without Online support... That bugs me the most... Then again alot of these greedy companies could come out with an "Online edition" of a perticular game (im looking at you EA)...

Then again i dont really care since all i want is Smash Bros. Brawl Online... OLRmy will be one of the first clans on that (i can see it now) hehe

That's probably why SSBB isn't coming till 2007, I'd guess...

I'm not sure what to think about this. I truly feel lack of online support murdered the gamecube in many ways... imagine if you HAD been able to play F-Zero GX or SSBM online *drool*...

BUT, a lot of the big big franchises are first-party. I think Nintendo can get away with it as long as sales are great. That's what the third parties care about more than anything else, really ;)

Do we think first party titles will definatley still have online? I don't see why Nintendo would just keep it away from third parties like that, unless they don't have the infratructure sorted out themselves yet?

CoD is published by Activision BTW.

If Madden isn't online, that definately would be a bummer to a lot of people though.

If I had to guess, I would say that this is so that Nintendo can push the "Party Console" angle a bit more with split screen and local multiplay stuff.

I thought we talked about this stuff already. Also if I remember right TH:DHJ now supports progressive scan and widescreen. That report was from August and a lot can change in a few months.
