No more Captain Jack, that really sucks

Postby lordkaosu » Fri Oct 21, 2005 2:56 pm

Saw the announcement on the front page, that really sucks. I always liked the Captain Jack stuff. After first hearing him on the import DDR songs way back, I was hooked. I now have a good size Captain Jack collection, one of my favorite artists.

Yeah, just makes me think of the OLR commercial dedicated to him.
He's a standard.
Sigh, only 43 too that sucks a whole lot.

One 'out of courtesy' thing to change:
Don't use the Copy Kills Music, nor the Captain Jack crying bumps.

I'm sorry, I have no idea what you mean there. I'm not sure what "Copy Kills Music" or "Real Radio Makes Captain Jack cry" bumps are.

*gasp* you don't remember those? :O!!
I guess they don't play them anymore. And like Jason said, be kinda bad to continue them anyway. They were basically small little clips that promoted OLR. Like on the 24 hour live 365 shuffle it plays every now and then or during the live 3-hour show they play it when coming back from a break. Yeah, there was one on Captain Jack.

The captain jack crying promo has been pulled from general rotation, for now, until I can discuss with the others.

Honestly, I'm on the fence with wether they need to be retired or not. On one hand, I see why it should be done out of respect but at the same time... captain jack was the shit, and still is the shit, and our promos just pay tribute to the man that is the CAPTAIN.

I think the copy kills music will stay but the crying will be... altered. That's what I'm going to suggest to my lovely OLR co-hosts.

Ah, got it now. I don't listen to the 24hr show. Tried it once, but I'm really not a fan of the DDR versions of songs and junk due to their truncated length. I know that's not all there is on there, I just like the full versions of songs instead. Clips are good in the games, but when I have the cd I like the full deal.

Haven't listened to anything of OLR yet besides the podcast and nothing like that was on there. The 3hr show sounds good, one of these days I hope to be able to give it a whirl. But for now, I'll be a little lost on past references.

Hey skie, did anyone ever make new OLR promos and sned them to you? I remember that contest thing you did a long time ago when I could still catch the 3-hr show. But I can't catch them anymore, so I don't know.

[THREAD HIJACK WARNING] Skie, you should make the promo's Play Little Boy. *CLICK* (Show reference to one of my call requests during the Captain Jack episode of OLR) Anyways, my favourite bump has to be the one set at an OLR Staff meeting:

It went something like this, (don't remember EXACTLY):

Leader: "Are we professional DJs?"
Crowd: "NO!"
Leader: "Are we well known?"
Crowd: "NO!"
Leader: "Do we still want people to kiss our asses?"
Crowd: "YES!".

That one WAS good.

So what is everyone's favorite Captain Jack song and video?

For the video, I'd say Dream a Dream, that was just a great video. Although it did feature less hot chicks then others(especially Iko Iko, that was loaded with island babes).

For the song, I really love the remake they did of Centerfold.

You gotta love Jack's videos. I think the "Captain Jack" video was the first I saw from him, just a classic.
