Traveling to LA for a day... suggestions?

Postby MrKenji » Thu Oct 19, 2006 12:57 am

Normally, the humdrum daily grind of my dayjob gets in the way of doing anything substantially interesting. I am a cook, after all- and I live in Las Vegas. WIthout a car.

Trust me, it's anything but pleasant over here.

Anyways, I have the once-in-a-lifetime chance to take my friend's car for a weekend. I'm taking me and my girlfriend in that sucker and driving as far west as possible before falling into the Pacific. In other words, LA.

Anyone been there? Any place of note where I should go? Any awesome places to buy or play games (as the main purpose of this trip is to get major bemani therapy for me and my girl)?

So far, the day trip stands as such:

Arcade Infinity (IIDX DistorteD, Pop'n 14 FEVER!)
Little Tokyo (Import game shops, Kinokuniya)
Ten Ren's Tea Time (because the one in NYC Chinatown rocks hard)

... anything else I'm missing? Aside from the big things (Sunset strip, Hollywood, the Chinese Theater- all the tourist spots), anyways.

Thanks to all that can help.

If bemani therapy is what you're after, you already have the two must-visits on your list, Arcade Infinity & Little Tokyo. There's a great shop in Little Tokyo, somewhere between Mitsuwa Center and the official Little Tokyo center (where there's a sushi restaurant upstairs) that has a crapload of old import games and import CD's. If it's still around, you must stop there.

Make sure to visit the Arena Interactive Lounge! (The place that All Games Interactive broadcasts from.)
I don't believe they have any Bemani, but it's a great place to relax, meet the other folk in the AllGames network, and in general socialize with some great gamers while playing some great games. Usually 'latest and greatest' ones too.

It's a very nice place to sit back and play, I like what I see everytime I poke into the webcam, and I really wanna go there too! :(
( http://www.allgames.com/webcam.asp , in case you were curious. )

[edit]
Looks like it got tipped over again. Whoops!

Oh, and while I'm at it, Arena's Website, for reference and address and such.

Yeah, vegas can be pretty crazy. @_@
I should know.
But you pretty much listed all the good places to go.
Have a nice trip.

So I got to LA and back, and while it was a crazy trip (is I-10 ALWAYS backed up?) and I didn't have a chance to explore Little Tokyo as much as I wanted to, it was still pretty flippin' awesome.

It was funny, though, at Arcade Infinity- I was playing Murmur Twins Hyper Battle with someone, and on the last chorus line the game hitched up and the notechart went rediculously slow.

We both failed.

And then my car died. XD

But I got back in one piece somehow- even if the horn now honks the theme to insertion automatically (without being able to stop) as soon as I turn the key.

If I have the chance, I'm definitely going back.
