DarkSakura, haven't you seen the second (new) season? I won't spoil it in case you haven't but you really ought to see "School Reunion".

And to VxJasonxV - I was using OS X's built-in Grab to take the screenshot, but thanks for the tip, I didn't realise it was that easy. As for QuickSilver and Growl, I just don't see their merits. I've heard many good things about QuickSilver, but the website is so obtuse I can't get my head around what the thing does, other than launch apps.

Amusing, because I've never heard of Grab until now :P.
But Quicksilver tells me it's in Applications->Utilities, so I see.
Funny :D.

Yes, QuickSilver can do many more things than just launch apps, but frankly, what's wrong with it just launching apps?
Ctrl+Space -> Application name (or part of) <enter>
That's how much effort it takes to launch an app. It is infinitely quicker than anything a mouse can do.

Click finder -> click applications -> scroll scroll scroll scroll double click
:P

I don't use QuickSilver for anything other than app launching, and I'm JUST FINE with that.

Growl is a notification system. If you have multiple computers, and only one screen (like a KVM arrangement), you can shoot notices around to your Mac about things. Like, oh, I don't know, Update notices, or if it was updating, update completion, etc.
I use it for notification on song changes (VIA XMMS2, FUCK ITUNES), I'm planning on using it for Portage update notices soon, and I have a python script I can use for sending notices about anything I want from Linux to my Mac.

Also, I am an IM status whore, so I have sign ons/sign offs/IM errors, etc. being shown via growl.

<3 my mac.

I use Growl (mainly to tell me what just came on iTunes), but I really don't see any need for Quicksilver - what does it do that Spotlight doesn't?

Spotlight launches applications?

For me, personally, spotlight is much slower by comparison...

Also, QuickSilver is highly scriptable to be able to tell <x> application to do <y> whenever requested.
Again, I know what it can do, but I don't use it for that (I'm admittedly not a 'power' mac user).

Not all of it, but a good bit of it, and yes, I've seen "School Reunion"! I love that one!! Too bad Romana's dead; I'd love for her to have come back, too.

I really love "The Girl in the Fireplace" for this:

"Who the hell are you?!"
"I'm the Doctor, and I just snogged Madame du Pompadour!!"

Yes, Spotlight launches applications. :D

I have it mapped to Apple+Space. Type in part of the program name, hold down Apple then press enter. I'm not that much of a power user. :P

That's exactly how I launch my apps. And the next version of Spotlight will be much faster for launching them, too.

I think (since I drank the QuickSilver juice) the minute I got my Mini, I rebound Spotlight to Apple+Shift+Space or something like that, as Spotlight occupies my Apple+Space (<3).

Interesting though, thanks for the news, it'll help.
