A question about the show.

Yeah, I was wondering if it costs much to get/start a podcast show online.

I am kind of interested of starting my own show.

PS: Thanks for reading my email on the show. I didnt think you would actually read it on the show. :P

As little as nothing, as much as a couple hundred (or maybe in that range).

If you already have a recording source, you're good to go.
There are plenty of free recording softwares available (I recommend Audacity).
If you already have a web hosting account, you're ready to publish.
If you know how to generate the XML files or have a 'Podcast creation' utility, you have the 'glue' for the whole operation.

The podcast cost OLR (IMO) nothing when they started.
They already had the recording equipment from the ~3 years of show.
They already had Adobe Audition to record/edit/etc. (Audacity is a GREAT starting point when there's not much to do to the recording, and again, FREE AND OPEN SOURCE).
I'm the web host, I pay for it because I pay for the other sites in the same account, no cost to OLR.
I wrote the Podcast/XML/RSS generator myself, wrote a frontend for Rob to update it, bam, nothing out of pocket.

Jeremy, in case you're curious. I've dabbled in the thought of releasing my podcast generator. It's a very simple PHP web script that gets the job done.

I haven't made a decision one way or another *yet*, but only time will tell with that.

Thanks Jason for all the help you provided.

Now hopefully I can get this started in the near future.

Another question about the show.

Postby Graywulf » Wed Feb 15, 2006 10:49 pm

Is this a show that favors one game console. And if so which one.

WhyBox I mean XBox360, Nintendo or Sony.

YBOX

well all kidding and biassing aside what console is the choice for NEXT GEN

as in will do alot more than the others in the next 5 years.

based on what has been released and what has been promised and not

given anything in the way of what to expect. Ask and ill explain what I

mean.

I think it's too early to call the next-gen race. We'll have to see how the other systems pan out. Personally as long as Sony doesn't screw up they will probably end up being number 1 again seeing as that's been the trend for the last 2 consoles. But then again Nintendo could pull out a hat-trick and take over again. Who knows?

I agree Loki it is too early to tell. And with sony having over 100 mill PS2s in the world allready Next Gen or not it will do verry well.

Sony would have to really screw up to lose. and nintendo is definatly going to allways be around in japan dont think the US is that interested.

XBOX is allways going to be a US console and fight to the end.

I feel that Sony is holding off anouncing price and release date until
XBOX starts selling more systems. And I feel Microsoft is waiting for
sony to release the price point and due date.

Or Microsoft is building up for a second launch set for the PS3s release for they think it might be in spring as well.

oh well I myself cant wait for the sparks to fly but I will always root for Sony ..Go Sony ....

Are you sure you're talking about Sony?
:P

I'm pulling for Nintendo, because I don't call them cliché, but they are two things:
1) Unique
2) FUN

I don't expect the 'moral majority' to agree, because after all, the Gamecube was just a system for a little kid (*cough*Ikaruga, Eternal Darkness*wheeze*) and what console can you play with a remote, I mean wtf seriously?
