Should Orange Lounge Radio stay with Live365?

Postby skie » Mon Sep 05, 2005 9:09 am

You guys know the problems we've been facing... I'd like to hear your feedback on the question. If you are suggesting we do not stay with Live365 then why? If you know of any alternatives, what do you suggest?

Thanks for your feedback guys...

Actually I've been out of the loop. What happened?

Didn't shadow pass out free streaming a while back? Any chance hoppin on that?

If you were to stick with live365, why not make a downloadable version of the whole show as well in the event live365 fails?

deejay, wrong thread. Anyway, what i mean is you put it up IF live365 goes down. You don't put it up if live 365 does work.

Honestly, I wouldn't ditch Live365 just yet, since that gives you the plattform to further take the station to the stratosphere, but you should at least be prepared for rain. I mean, you could just have a SHOUTcast server set up to be used in dire situations like last night. Just make sure that if you use SHOUTcast, you're gonna have to have the proper licenses from BMI, ASCAP, or the like, since correct me if I'm wrong, but through Live365, you are covered under a blanket license that allows you to play just about any song through your Live365 station.

Also, if you decide to set up an alternate SHOUTcast stream, I assume you're gonna also stream it via mp3PRO.

According to Ad-Watch, Live365 is *B to the LIZZOCKED*. I've used it before and haven't had any troubles, I don't see why it's blocked by default, does 365 have spyware or something?

Overly agressive "protection" software.

If you can install Radio 365, you can give that a shot.
(Or is that only available to VIP members? I forget...)

Your software is probably complaining because the Live365 player window requires "unsafe" (peh) web elements to be installed.

If you're gonna switch, switch to something Mac users can listen to. :P

If you could, I would ditch live365 in a heartbeat unless we get some AAC or OGG streaming capibilities. I know the guys at Digitally Imported are doing AAC plus streaming at 24Kbps and it sounds amazing. Blows the pants off mp3pro encoding at a lower bitrate. unfortunately it doesn't work in iTunes yet since its using a variant of the AAC codec but i would at least check out one of the di.fm streams to get a feel of the codec.

http://www.di.fm

btw, if you have the mp3pro codec for winamp, make sure that the "enable (use mp3pro decoder for all mp3 files)" is not checked.
and for mac users use VLC.

Live 365 is sort of annoying too because of this... This is all I have to say:

"So, how are you enjoying your trip to the zoo so far, Tim?"

AND...

"PS, I LOOOOOOOVE YOU" (actually I like R+B, and this song. However, I don't like hearing the same ad 10 times in a row.
AND EVEN...

"Sorry sir, this lot is full, good morning Mr. Peterson, Come on in"

Seriously, the advertisements are annoying and repetitive.

If there were only a way to h8xX0r around them.
