OLR: To Go (Podcast)

Postby skie » Wed Jan 05, 2005 7:02 pm

So, have you guys checked out the new OLR: To Go?

What did ya think? Were you able to get it set up OK? Give us feedback! :D

[Edit: Jason]
Hey Guys and Gals,

Need some launch feedback.
As of this writing, you should get TWO shows. One short commercial of sorts, and one ~20 minute-ish show.
Please let me know if you EVER encounter an error.
Please ensure to provide:
1) What you did/were doing when it came up.
2) Copy the text of the error message, if it can't be copied, press print screen, paste it into MS Paint (or your equivalent graphics editing program) and save it.
3) Operating System and Software you were using.

I checked into it and subscribed, and heard the "you'll take is in your pocket everywhere you go!! On second thought etc etc..." message. Is this gonna be weekly like everything else? Cause it's pretty awesome.

Hmmm, looks like there might be some launch difficulties, I'm having our tech guy Jason <3 look into it.... try checking the feed again in about an hour... the first show has been posted (It's about 20 minutes long)

Fixed4u.
Tell me if you still only get the commercial... I think I have to do it in reverse order (newest first).
I broke validation though and then patched it back up, yay.

[edit]
There's going to be a podcast RSS version 0.2 in less than 24 hours. I see a few semantic (i.e. things that aren't problems per say, but shouldn't be done in the manner that they are) errors that I would like to clean up.

Ok. I'll check--

This is such the perfect opportunity to create an "OLR: To Go" Playlist on my iPod! Schwing.

Jason, just wanted to update one thing in your post... I believe that when you initially subscribe to a podcast you only download the most recent "post"... so users should only get the 20 minute show. I'm not concerned if they miss the commercial, but if only the commercial downloads and not the show (as happened with blackdevilrx), well that's a bit concerning.

Remember in iPodder, you can select "Chcek for new Podcasts" manually and hopefully you'll get the first show OK. :)

By my understanding, you should get anything/everything in the feed. Which is the last 10 episodes.
;)

I'm going to download ipodder software and give it a try myself right now.

[edit]
Well, it sees both, but only got the most recent.
I wonder why it's not getting the commercial too... hmmmm

For those still having problems getting the 8MB 20minute show... try un-subscribing to the podcast, then re-subscribe to it and download again. Let me know if it works........

KDash, I will try to find out what's going on.

It would *really* help to hear from some other folks who have had the same problem, or have had success.

For the sake of figuring out how it works, I will now post the log in the case when I press "Check selected feed."

When I highlight Orange Lounge Radio: To Go and press "Check selected feed" this happens:

Figuring out which feeds to scan...
It'd be impolite to scan Orange Lounge Radio: To Go again only 179 seconds since we last did it.
... but we'll do it anyway, given that you singled it out.
Checking http://orangeloungeradio.com/phpnuke/podcast.rss
2 enclosure(s) found
Pass #2: downloading enclosures...

And stops there. I think that it finds both of them and then starts downloading AND THEN stops.

For those of you with pop-up blockers or ware-stoppers or anything of the sort, I advise you to disable them while you're trying this. Some software (even though it shouldn't) might be detecting this and stopping it. I am not saying that might be the solution, however.

For some reason, I can't un-subscribe. I can, however, remove a selected feed, but when I put the feed back in it reads as subscribed.

Hope this helps.

[Edit: I'm now going to try un-installing the program and trying to see what happens. I might update this later on.]
[Edit: Another: I did the above...and it recognized everything when I re-installed it. This might take more work than I thought. By the way, I'm running Windows XP with Service Pack 2 (bleh)]

You have to be a little more keen about it ;).
C:\Documents and Settings\<your username>\Application Data\iPodder
Nuke that whole iPodder directory and you'll have a fresh install.

It's odd that I got the show just fine, yet everyone else is grabbing the commercial, I've not even heard it yet!
I'm going to do some research on jPodder later.

Sidenote: Supposedly, iPodder 2.0 is going to sync up ALL items, old and new.
Try the above work around to blow away your data and try again.
I was doing some work last night to clean up the feed a little bit, so the changes may be confusing iPodder :P.
Blow it away and try again.
